Far North - Rarawa Beach
Beaches and rockpools in the Far North are just something else!

wanderlust  //  noun
a strong desire to travel.  “a man consumed by wanderlust”

Travel is always something I’m wanting to do. I’ve always got a big trip pencilled out in my head and lots of mini getaways wanting to happen. Travelling actually appears quite a bit in my 1000 in 100 list, and I’m making tracks to make a few of them happen as I write this.

Genie from Bunny Eats Design shared her Wanderlust Tag in the #brunchclub facebook group the other day, asking for bloggers to take part. So without further ado..

Where was your first plane to?
Totally not that exciting, but it was probably one of those tiny tiny eight seater planes from Auckland to Wanganui or vice versa.

Wanganui - Virginia Lake
My sister and I with Virginia Lake in Wanganui,
which is across the road from where we grew up.

Where have you traveled to that you would love to visit again?
Going International – I would definitely go back to Barcelona. I’ve been there twice and would love to go there again to keep exploring and enjoying the lifestyle, art and food. I would also love to see more of Spain.
Keeping it Local – I would love to go back to the Far North. I went up recently for a long weekend away staying at a friends bach and I have to be honest, those Far North beaches have ruined all Auckland beaches for me.

You’re leaving tomorrow, money is no object, where are you going?
USA. Road tripping from one coast to the other in my own sweet time – with my husband of course!

Preferred method of travel; planes, trains or car?
In my order: Car – only if I’m the passenger and can soak everything up as we go – followed by Train and then Plane.
I’ve traveled a couple of times via Cruise ship and I really enjoyed it. There are a few niggly things, but overall I found cruises to be great value for money – especially if you get to stop off in a lot of places you wouldn’t normally be able to!

Cruising around the Med in 2013 with my husband. Left is one of the grand staircases on board. Right is just one of the many amazing sunsets on the ship.

Favourite travel website?
When planning our big european trip for 2013, I found Trip Advisor to be indispensable. Especially because you can go back through peoples reviews to the time of year when you will be visiting to get a sense of what it’ll be like.

Where would you travel to just eat the food?
Oh god this is a tough question.
Asia. But if I have to be specific it’s a tie between Thailand and Vietnam.

Vietnam and Pho - Adventure World
Vietnam is definitely on my must see list, and must-eat food! (Pho)

Is there a place you would never go again?
I really didn’t enjoy Florence, the city. I mean I liked the museums, seeing David and the Ponte Vecchio – but I was expecting to experience Tuscany and Florence didn’t give me that taste of Tuscany I wanted. I wouldn’t go back to Florence but would visit Tuscany again, in hopes of getting that real Tuscan countryside escape.
I do know that it’s my own fault for not getting that experience.

Can you recite your passport number from memory if asked?
Nope. I think It starts with an ‘L’ though.

Do you prefer the Window, Aisle, or Middle seat?
I definitely prefer the two seaters rather than the three seaters. For long haul flights I’d prefer the window (something to lean on) but for short haul I like the aisle.

How do you pass the time on the air plane?
Movies and TV. Reading. Sudoku. and looooooots of Music. I also really love airplane food, I know a lot of people don’t like it but I look forward to it.

That was so much fun! Thanks to Genie from Bunny Eats Design for coming up with this inspirational and exciting Wanderlust Tag. I’d really like to see Corrine, Lizzy and Sam do this tag!

  • I absolutely love that dress you’re wearing on your cruise – and you both look so happy!

    • Thanks Lena! We are so happy in that photo – it was our last night on the cruise and we were a bit tipsy (thank yooooou drinks package) and hanging out with an american couple that we made fast friends with because of the cruise. Such a good night. Also the steps we are on had crystals in them – SO FANCY.
The dress was a purchase in Bari, Italy (this first stop on our Med cruise) from a little whole in the wall store. I love it so much – I just wish I fitted it like I did in the photo still 😉

  • I went back and did a second Med cruise I loved the first one so much! Great answers 🙂

    • Ditto here Sarah! I went on one in 2007 with my dad and grandmother, and then again (pictured above) in 2013 with my husband, both were around the Mediterranean! Would probably do it again too 🙂

  • That photograph of you and Graeme on the cruise is *the* cutest thing! Oh Laura, you’re so pretty. Thanks so much for tagging me, I can’t wait to play!

    • Thanks so much Corrine xx You’re beautiful!

  • Oh my word! I’m gonna have to do this tag now :S You realise it’s going to take me forever and a day because I’ll end up reminiscing along the way.
You look freaking stunning on the cruise ship. That dress suits you down to the ground (literally) and your hair was a fantastic length!

    • Woo can’t wait to see your one Sam! x

      • I just have to find time to do it! This month is crazy!
        xx

  • I didn’t like Florence all that much either. Well, I liked some parts of it – I stayed in an Airbnb apartment and the host’s parents had a restaurant downstairs with the most amazing cakes, but the rest of it I didn’t love 🙂

    • I’m glad I’m not the only one! I definitely want to go back and experience Tuscany as it should be experienced – in a Villa in the middle of rolling fields!

  • I’m loving this wanderlust tag! So interesting to hear everyones thoughts and experiences. I haven’t done a lot of travel, but hoping to get to Europe one day!

    • You’ll love it Nicola! I definitely recommend Eastern Europe – less touristy!
